not installed properly and must be reinstalled."
Reinstalar no soluciona el problema. Debes hacer:
inicio/ejecutar/escribe: c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMP
"explorer has caused a problem in wmp.dll" al iniciar un video
Inicio/ejecutar/escribe: regsvr32 wmp.dll

Debes mirar las entradas o lineas que comienzan con la palabra error en esta carpeta: C:\windows\wmsetup.log para saber donde cometio el error
"Explorer has caused an error in WMPDXM.DLL."
"Cannot Complete Windows Media Player 9 Series Setup."
"It was not possible to complete Setup. Windows Media Player 9 Series was not installed. To update Windows, run Media Player 9 Series Setup again."
Inicio/ejecutar/escribe: regsvr32 msdxm.ocx y enter
regsvr32 dxmasf.dll y enter
y si el IE comienza a tener problemas:
inicio/ejecutar/escribe: regsvr32 wmp.dll y enter
regsvr32 wmpdxm.dll y enter
si al iniciar "Explorer has caused a problem in WMPDXM.DLL"
inicio/ejecutar/escribe: regsvr32 wmpdxm.dll
